DescriptionRupert H. Morris (1844-1918) was a member of the Chester Archaeological Society and had a keen interest in local history and archaeology. In 1884, he was appointed chaplain and librarian to the Duke of Westminster. His works include Chester in the Plantagenet and Tudor Reigns, (1894) and 'The Siege of Chester 1643-1646', published as volume 24 of the Society's Journal in 1923. Both works make extensive use of local and national sources. The collection includes archaeological and historical notes and transcripts of seventeenth century Assembly orders.

Administrative HistoryCanon R H Morris, born in 1844, was the author of Chester in the Plantagenet and Tudor Reigns, 1894, based on a detailed study of the Chester Corporation and other records, and of Diocesan Histories: Chester, 1895. In the last years of his life he was working on Chester in the seventeenth century, a work completed after his death by P H Lawson, and published as The siege of Chester in JCAS, vol 25, 1923. An obituary to Canon Morris is contained in JCAS vol 22, 1918, pp 208-212. Morris died in 1918.
